Wrist and Carpal Tunnel Physical Therapy

Wrist Physical Therapy
One-On-One, Hands-On Treatments. Effective Wrist Pain Relief.

This was my first time with a PT so I did not know what to expect. I was very impressed with the initial evaluation given by Jessica. Each session was a hands on/one on one with Jessica. Did not think I would get back to jogging but after 7 sessions my goal was reached!! Yea!! A big Thank You to Jessica and all the Therapydia Team. I could not have done it without them. And I was given exercises to carry me through on my physical fitness journey.

I’m pleased with the results I am having in a short time as a result of the treatment received from Therapydia. I can recommend with confidence that Therapydia will create a treatment plan that will likely give the same results that I am experiencing.

I have found Dr Braswell to be extremely caring, thorough with her diagnoses, clear with treatment explanations, and very skilled in carrying out the necessary therapy. She has provided immense relief from significant acute pain episodes. I like it that the doctor evaluates and performs all treatments herself at each visit. I am very grateful for the care I have received.

Wrist Pain Relief

Wrist pain can be the result of a sudden injury resulting in a sprain or fracture, but can also arise from long-term issues such as carpal tunnel syndrome or wrist tendonitis. Carpal Tunnel syndrome is the most common wrist/hand issue treated by clinicians. The carpal tunnel region in the wrist is where the median nerve and the tendons of the finger flexors travel. Nerves can be sensitive to compressive forces so limited space in the tunnel can cause nerve pain in the the hand and fingers along with the wrist.

Another common wrist condition is wrist tendonitis. Tendons connect muscles to bone and wrist tendons connect the forearm muscles to your hand and finger bones. If the wrist is overworked or aggravated due to carrying a heavy load, one or more tendon may be irritated or inflamed, resulting in pain.

Signs & Symptoms

Carpal tunnel is typically associated with using the mouse/computer/keyboard and occurs with increased carpal tunnel pressure due to repetitive, sustained or sudden compression of the area. Wrist tendonitis may start of as an ache or stiffness in your wrist and hand, but as symptoms worsen, you will feel it while doing everyday activities.

    • Ache sensation into the hand, forearm, and/or wrist area
    • Numbness and/or tingling to the hand, primarily to the palm, thumb and first two fingers
    • Weakness in hands or fingers
    • Swelling around the wrist

Why PT?

Your physical therapist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your arm, wrist, hand and shoulder. By assessing your range of motion and strength, along with utilizing a hands-on approach to identifying which tendons are affected, your physical therapist can pinpoint the cause of your wrist issues. Depending on your diagnosis, your physical therapist may utilize the following treatment methods:

    • Hands-on, manual therapy techniques to mobilize bones of wrist and improve range of motion in wrist
    • Biomechanics adjustments to identify painful motions, correct abnormal postures to reduce stress on the wrist and adjust grip and position of hands while performing everyday activities
    • Ergonomic evaluation to help optimize your work area to keep the wrist in a relaxed, neutral position
    • Tendon gliding techniques of the hand and wrist
    • Nerve gliding techniques of the hand, wrist and arm
