Groin Physical Therapy
Groin Physical Therapy
Hands-On Techniques. Long-Term, Effective Groin Pain Relief.
What’s Causing Your Groin Pain?
Groin pulls are common in running sports that changes direction often such as soccer or jumping and landing sports such as basketball. When they are overextended, tears in your muscles occur and lead to pain and inflammation. Groin pulls can also be a result of weakness somewhere else in the body and your groin has to overcompensate for it. Overuse injuries occur when too much stress is placed on your muscles and a pivot that you’ve completed 100 times before without any issues could be the breaking point. Pulled muscles, ligaments or tendons elsewhere in the leg may also lead referred pain in groin, making diagnosing the cause of your groin difficult.
Signs & Symptoms
-
As in the case with most injuries, if you still feel groin pain after a couple of days, you should have a medical professional take a look at it. As mentioned earlier, your body is great at compensating and your groin pain can lead it to overutilize other muscles and cause downstream issues with altered body mechanics.
• Difficulty walking
• Tightness in groin region
• Swelling in groin area
• Spasms in groin area
Why Physical Therapy
-
Your groin area is supported by your abdominals, hip, buttock and lower back muscles and they work together to give you a controlled gait. Any muscle imbalance in these areas may lead to groin pain. Your physical therapist will take a comprehensive look at your body mechanics to properly pinpoint the cause of your groin pain and develop a custom treatment plan to meet your goals.
- Manual therapy: To manipulate muscles in the groin area to increase your hip and leg range of motion and massage any damaged muscles
- Custom exercises: To stretch and strengthen your tissues to promote faster healing
- Gait analysis: Identify muscle imbalances to make sure you’re not applying excess strain on your groin area.
