Your IT Band is runs down the outside of your hip down to the knees. When your IT bands rubs against the outside of the knee joint when the knee flexes and extends, inflammation and pain will occur.
Signs & Symptoms

ITBS is commonly mistaken as a knee injury because it occurs on the outside of the knee and swelling occurs around the knee. If you bend your knee and rotate it inwards to 45 degrees, if you feel pain on the outside of your knee, you have ITBS.
